Annual Tree of Life Ceremony

The Tree of Life ceremony is an annual event held to help us honour and remember the ones we’ve lost as we enter the holiday season.  For over 20 years Bereaved Families of Ontario – Ottawa has held this event as a touching and visible way to cherish and remember our lost loved ones.

During the event, speakers will tell personal stories of grief regarding their loss and how it has affected them, as well as impart advice about the expectations of spending the holidays without their loved one.  This is followed by a remembrance ceremony where a candle is lit in honour of your loved one and you will have the opportunity to hang a message to your loved one our Tree of Life.

During the candle ceremony, individuals are invited up to light a candle in memory of their loved one.  As each person lights a candle, the physical space of the event begins to transform from one of darkness into light.  Once everyone has lit a candle, a long moment of silence is held to allow all a chance to remember their loved one in a hall basked in candlelight.

There will be opportunities to purchase some holiday-themed decorations, as well as some small gifts, and there will be refreshments offered at the end of the evening.
